Issue: Crime and Violence Prevention

As a scientist, Theron is a firm believer in evidence-based policy making. It’s no secret that the safest neighborhoods aren’t the ones with the most militarized police, they’re the places with the most resources. Theron will champion the creation of an unarmed civilian police response unit for emergencies when the police are not the best people to call, such as during mental health crises. Similarly, he will address violent crime by tackling the root causes head on; aggressively combatting poverty and improving the material conditions of everyone.

Issue: Transportation

A quarter of Pittsburgh residents don’t own a car, and thousands of people all around Allegheny County, including Theron, rely on our T and busway systems every day. Theron will use his position as a councilman to fight against any cuts to our transit system, and will advocate for the expansion of our bus routes and light rail systems.

Issue: Housing

Housing is a human right, and we deserve a representative on County Council who will treat it like one. Theron will fight for a Tenant’s Bill of Rights, and fight against the out-of-state investment firms buying up our neighborhoods to drive up the prices.

Issue: Environment

Our state constitution guarantees us the right to a clear environment, and for too long our elected leaders have treated clean air, clean water, and a livable climate as luxuries rather than necessities. Theron will fight to clean up our air and water by ensuring that polluters are held properly accountable for the damage they cause and by banning fracking. Theron will lower the cost of your energy bills by transitioning all county buildings to cheap, clean, renewable energy.
